In the Money
Also called: ITM, hit the board
'In the money' means finishing first, second, or third in a race — the positions that traditionally collect a share of the purse; a horseman who runs 'a high percentage in the money' gets a paycheck from most starts.
Owners care about the in-the-money (ITM) percentage almost as much as the win percentage, because it measures how reliably a stable brings home a check. A trainer who places horses well — the right race, the right level — runs a high ITM rate.
