Colt
A colt is an intact (un-castrated) male thoroughbred under five years old.
Once a colt turns five he's referred to simply as a 'horse' (in the technical sense), or a 'stallion' if he's used for breeding. Colts carry extra value as racehorses because a successful one can be retired to stud — the breeding side is where the biggest money is made.
